Vacancy For Trustee / Director 

Wellspring is welcoming members of the community to apply for a Trustee position on their board of management to help support and shape the future of Wellspring and act as its Treasurer.

The board are keen to grow its current board and expand its range of skills. It is open to all applicants with a keen interest in supporting Wellspring.  The board particularly encourages those with expertise and experience in charity governance, property maintenance, fundraising or IT.

The Board is responsible for the financial and legal welfare of Wellspring and for the broad operational strategy. The Board is also ultimately responsible for ensuring that Wellspring is fulfilling its objectives as stated in the Articles of Association. The Board works closely with the Clinical Services Managers and Administration and open communication is an important factor in the Board's ability to perform its duties.

Board members will typically be active for 4 hours per month, plus attend scheduled board meetings in Edinburgh every 8 weeks and expected to attend the AGM.


Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that Wellspring pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy
  • Ensuring that Wellspring complies with its governing document (ie its trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • Ensuring that Wellspring applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects (ie the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public
  • Ensuring that Wellspring defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of Wellspring
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of Wellspring, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place
  • Ensuring the financial stability of Wellspring
  • Protecting and managing the property of Wellspring and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds
  • Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the staff.

  • Experience in charity governance, property maintenance, fundraising or IT is desirable
