How do I know if therapy is for me?

People come to Wellspring with a broad range of issues, these include: anxiety, depression, stress, life changes, relationships, eating disorders, bereavement & loss, gender & sexuality issues, alcohol & substance misuse, personal growth & development.

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

This is a process which offers you an opportunity to explore the issues that have brought you to Wellspring in a confidential setting. It provides time and space for you to talk to someone with the skills and experience to help you address issues which are making you feel anxious, depressed, stressed, stuck, or unable to cope.

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

There is considerable overlap between counselling and psychotherapy in relation to theory and practice, but there are also some distinct differences.

These differences include:

Psychotherapy training and preparation is longer than counselling training and the requirements of the trainee are usually more in depth.

Both counselling and psychotherapy are appropriate for similar issues, but the training of the psychotherapist prepares him/her to work with greater complexity of issues.

It is important to remember, however, that counselling is not more useful than psychotherapy, and vice versa, but that the two disciplines are closely aligned with significant similarities. It is also important to note that experienced counsellors often find that they are working psychotherapeutically, and there is an ongoing professional debate as to whether these two disciplines are indeed different.

Essentially, it is the experience of the practitioner and their way of relating that appears to be the most important factor in the therapeutic process.
