EMDR
"EMDR" is an acronym
for "Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing". EMDR
is comprehensive, integrative psychotherapy approach. It contains elements
of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed
to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive
behavioural, humanistic, experiential and body-centred therapies.
EMDR is recognised as being
one of the most effective forms of therapy for those suffering from
trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD. "All people with
PTSD should be offered a course of trauma-focused pyschological treatment.....
eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) ....." (Nice
Guidelines CG26, 2005).
